This year SECON will feature two exciting workshops:
Workshop on Energy Harvesting Communications
Abstract: This workshop considers energy harvesting related issues in communications. We especially welcome research work that pushes theory to practice, such as theoretical work with emphasis on how to solve practical problem, experimental work on new systems, and system-level considerations for practical deployment. The workshop solicits state-of-the-art technical papers that were not previously published and are not currently under review for publication elsewhere. The main sub-areas of interest include, but not limited to:
- Energy-harvesting base-station / relay / access point;
- Energy-harvesting and energy-efficient machine-to-machine (M2) communications;
- Low-power and energy-harvesting wireless sensor network;
- Light (solar), thermal, vibration, RF, motion, wind energy harvesting;
- Wireless charging;
- Energy harvesting, storage, and recycling;
- Energy harvesting applications.

Self-organizing Wireless Access Networks for Smart cITY (SWANSITY)
Abstract: This workshop provides a forum for discussion and technical presentation on the topic of self-organizing wireless access networks for smart-city environments. These latter scenarios are usually characterized by the need of guaranteeing ubiquitous and pervasive network connectivity, while tackling the heterogeneity of devices and wireless access technologies. To this purpose, the workshop welcomes contributions on novel algorithms, methodological studies and experimentations on how to make a city-wide network infrastructure able to self-configure, self-organize and self-adapt to the dynamic requirements posed by the users and by the applications, in order to guarantee robust, ubiquitous, and secure connectivity over the urban environments. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Self-organizing wireless networks for pervasive urban access;
- Evolutionary design of wireless network components and devices;
- Self-organizing femtocell and cognitive radio networks;
- Bio-inspired models for self-organizing wireless networks;
- Controlled mobility algorithms for self-placing wireless nodes;
- Self-organizing networks through Device-2-Device technology (D2D);
- Security issues in Self-organizing wireless networks.
