Posters / Demos

IEEE SECON 2014 Camera Ready (for Posters/Demo Abstracts)

In order for your paper to be in the conference proceedings and IEEE Xplore you need to complete these five steps:
  1. Revise Your Paper
  2. Check your paper with IEEE PDF eXpress
  3. Register for the conference with payment
  4. Submit your copyright transfer
  5. Upload the Final Version of your paper in EDAS

1. Revise Your Paper (Formatting, Page Lengths and Adding IEEE Copyright Clearance Code)

Please read the reviews of your paper and follow the reviewers' recommendations for revising it and preparing the final version. When you are done with the revision, please print out your paper and carefully proof read it. The final manuscript must NOT contain page numbers.

The manuscript template can be found at Note that, for camera-ready papers, the page length limitation is:
Demo abstracts: 3 Pages
Poster abstracts: 3 Pages

Your final manuscript should have no page numbers and no headers/footers. Use a non-zero PDF top and bottom margins (typically, at least 0.5 inches) to help indicate if there are any page numbers.

Note that you will also need to add a Copyright Clearance Code Notice—this notice is to appear on the bottom of the first page of each paper. (This is separate from step 4, which details how to submit the Copyright Form). Detailed instructions can be found at:
  • For papers in which all authors are employed by the US government, the copyright notice is: U.S. Government work not protected by U.S. copyright
  • For papers in which all authors are employed by a Crown government (UK, Canada, and Australia), the copyright notice is: 978-1-4799-4657-0/14/$31.00 ©2014 Crown
  • For all other papers the copyright notice is: 978-1-4799-4657-0/14/$31.00 ©2014 IEEE

Latex users can add following lines just before \begin{document} for the copyright notice to show up (shown below as an example for the third case above):

\IEEEpubid{\makebox[\columnwidth]{978-1-4799-4657-0/14/\$31.00~\copyright~2014 IEEE \hfill}
\hspace{\columnsep}\makebox[\columnwidth]{ }}

MSWord users can use: ‘Insert’ -> ‘Text box’, insert the appropriate copyright notice in the texbox, and place the box (without border) at the bottom left on the first page.

2. Register for the conference

In order to upload your paper you must first register for the conference—please do so following the links provided at, indicating that you are registering as an “author”. Note that, as per the policies explained at,you can either register for the main conference as well, or just do a 1-day registration for Demos/Posters (for Posters/Demos, please register for Tuesday, July 1).
On registering for the conference, you will get a “confirmation number”—this confirmation number will be 11 digits long.  To subsequently upload your camera-ready paper, you will need a Registration Code—a) if you registered for the main conference (which includes the Poster/Demo sessions), then this code consists of the confirmation number, appended by “14SEC”—i.e., the code is 16 digits long, ending in 14SEC. b) However, if you performed the single-day registration, then this code is identical to the confirmation number—i.e., it is only 11 digits long. Registration deadline is **May 12**.

IEEE and IEEE Communications Society Policies
All IEEE SECON 2014 technical papers (including Posters/Demos) must be associated with an author registration at the FULL rate.  For posters/demos, authors have the option of performing a single-day registration (which would entitle them to only attend the specific day of their demo/poster session). For authors presenting multiple papers, one FULL registration is valid for up to three papers. IEEE reserves the right to exclude a paper from distribution after the conference (e.g., removal from IEEE Xplore) if the paper is not presented at the conference.

3. Check your paper with IEEE PDF eXpress

IEEE PDF eXpress has been made available ( for checking the IEEE Xplore compatibility of PDF files and provide assistance to authors to correct problems with their files. Instructions for IEEE PDF eXpress for IEEE SECON 2014 can be found at

The conference ID for IEEE PDF eXpress is "32271X". Note that as your poster/demo paper will appear as part of the conference proceedings, you will be using the same ID as the main conference. [Special note: The PDF eXpress site may be open only till May 12, so please complete this step before you submit the camera-ready paper.]

IEEE is very strict about the requirements for converting application files or PostScript files to full-text PDF for inclusion in IEEE Xplore. The new IEEE Xplore Requirements for PDF will be enforced. All conference articles submitted for inclusion in IEEE Xplore must be in Xplore-compatible PDF format. IEEE PDF eXpress is a free service to IEEE conferences, allowing their authors to make IEEE Xplore-compatible PDFs (Conversion function) or to check PDFs that authors have made themselves for IEEE Xplore compatibility (PDF Check function).

It is important to note that submitting a file to IEEE PDF eXpress is only for creation of a compliant PDF file, you must still submit your final paper through EDAS.

4. IEEE copyright form

Before you upload your Final paper, you will need to submit your IEEE copyright form using the IEEE electronic copyright mechanism. Please follow the link provided on the EDAS paper submission page.

5. Upload your paper

Your Final paper must be uploaded in EDAS by May 12th, 2014 (using the 16 digit registration code mentioned previously). The final manuscript must NOT contain page numbers.

To submit your Final paper, please go to EDAS, click on the “My Papers” button, and then upload your paper on the link provided. DO NOT go to "Submit paper".

PLEASE NOTE: To be published in the IEEE SECON 2014 Conference Proceedings and IEEE Xplore®, the paper must be presented by an author of that paper at the conference unless the TPC Chair grants permission for a substitute presenter arranged in advance of the event and who is qualified both to present and answer questions. Non-refundable registration fees must be paid prior to uploading the final IEEE formatted, publication-ready version of the paper. For authors with multiple accepted papers, one full registration is valid for up to 3 papers. Accepted and presented poster/demo papers will be published in the IEEE SECON 2014 Conference Proceedings and submitted to IEEE Xplore®.
